The Kingdom of Cambodia, formerly known as Kampuchea, has its name derived from the Sanskrit name Kambujadesa.

Location And Area
Cambodia, bordering the Gulf of Thailand, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, is situated in Southeast Asia.
Cambodia covers a total area of 181,035 square kilometers in the heart of South East Asia and it lies completely within the tropics where its southernmost points are only slightly more than 10º above the equator.
Two dominant features are the Tonlé Sap Lake and the Mekong River, which traverse the country from north to south.
The Mekong River, the 12th longest river in the world, basically runs through southern China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam before spilling into the sea.
